  • - Bit nozzle hydraulics and jet impact force calculations
  • - Hydraulics optimization for maximum bit cleaning efficiency
  • - Workshop: Perform full circulating system pressure loss calculations

Day 3 – Equivalent Circulating Density (ECD) & Wellbore Stability

  • - Definition and importance of ECD in narrow-margin wells
  • - Calculating static and dynamic ECD
  • - Impact of rheology and cuttings load on ECD
  • - Monitoring and managing ECD for wellbore stability
  • - Exercise: Calculate ECD variations during different drilling scenarios

Day 4 – Surge & Swab Pressure Calculations

  • - Causes and consequences of surge and swab pressures
  • - Calculating pressures during tripping in/out of hole
  • - Identifying factors affecting surge and swab magnitude
  • - Planning tripping speeds to minimize risks
  • - Workshop: Calculate surge and swab pressures for different mud properties and tripping speeds

Day 5 – Advanced Applications & Case Studies

  • - Hydraulics for high-angle and horizontal wells
  • - Impact of cuttings transport on pressure losses
  • - Managed pressure drilling (MPD) considerations
  • - Case studies: hydraulics-related well control incidents and lessons learned
  • - Capstone Project: Integrate hydraulics calculations for a complex well plan and propose optimization strategies
