Course Overview

This course delivers practical knowledge and workflows for evaluating reservoirs using integrated data. Participants will learn to analyze well logs, cores, seismic data, production performance, and dynamic behavior to build a comprehensive understanding of reservoir potential and support effective development decisions.

Day-by-Day Outline

Day 1 – Reservoir Characterization Fundamentals

  •  Principles of reservoir evaluation and field appraisal
  •  Integrating geological, petrophysical, and seismic data
  •  Identifying reservoir architecture, facies, and heterogeneity
  •  Basics of net-to-gross and pay zone determination
  •  Exercise: Interpret logs and cores to define reservoir layers

Day 2 – Petrophysical Analysis

  •  Rock properties: porosity, permeability, water saturation
  •  Formation evaluation workflows
  •  Resistivity and porosity logs interpretation
  •  Determining fluid contacts and net pay
  •  Workshop: Analyze well logs for reservoir quality indicators

Day 3 – Volumetrics and Reserves Estimation

  •  Volumetric methods for estimating hydrocarbons in place
  •  Estimating OOIP and OGIP using deterministic and probabilistic approaches
  •  Uncertainty in volumetric estimates
  •  Introduction to reserves classification (SPE-PRMS)
  •  Exercise: Calculate in-place volumes using net reservoir data

Day 4 – Dynamic Reservoir Analysis

  •  Decline curve analysis fundamentals
  •  Material balance applications in reservoir evaluation
  •  Analyzing production data to confirm reservoir performance
  •  Integrating pressure data with static models
  •  Workshop: Perform material balance calculations on field data

Day 5 – Integrated Evaluation and Field Development Planning

  •  Integrating static and dynamic data for reservoir evaluation
  •  Identifying upside potential and development opportunities
  •  Risk assessment in reservoir evaluation
  •  Case studies of integrated reservoir evaluation
  •  Capstone Project: Develop a comprehensive reservoir evaluation report for a field case
