Modern Well Test Analysis
Principles, Methods & Applications
Duration: 5 Days
Target Audience: Reservoir Engineers, Production Engineers, Well Testing Engineers, Asset Teams
Delivery Mode: Classroom / Virtual with Practical Analysis Exercises
Level: Intermediate to Advanced
Course Overview
This course provides a comprehensive understanding of modern well test interpretation, covering planning, acquisition, pressure-transient analysis, specialized tests, and integrating test results into reservoir management workflows. Participants will work with real-world examples, advanced diagnostic plots, and software tools.
Day-by-Day Outline

- Basics of pressure transient behavior in radial flow
- Planning well tests: equipment, duration, data quality
- Exercise: Design a basic buildup test plan for a vertical well
Day 2 – Diagnostic Plots and Flow Regime Identification
- Log-log, Horner, MDH, and Bourdet derivative plots
- Identifying flow regimes: wellbore storage, radial flow, boundary effects
- Concepts of skin, wellbore damage, and stimulation interpretation
- Workshop: Generate diagnostic plots from field data and interpret flow regimes
Day 3 – Interpretation of Complex Tests
- Multi-layer and dual-porosity reservoir responses
- Fractured reservoir well tests
- Effect of partial penetration and anisotropy
- Slug, interference, and pulse testing
