This course offers in-depth training in advanced drilling engineering concepts, planning for complex wells, torque & drag management, hydraulics optimization, and well control. The program includes a full day of hands-on simulation on DrillSIM 5000, allowing participants to apply concepts in a realistic drilling environment and build skills in safe well operations.

Day-by-Day Outline

Day 1 – Advanced Well Design & Complex Wells

  • - Well design for HPHT, deepwater, ERD, and complex trajectories
  • - Casing wear and torque considerations in extended wells
  • - Multi-well pad planning and anti-collision strategies
  • - Exercise: Design a well plan for an extended-reach offshore well

Day 2 – Advanced Hydraulics & ECD Management

  • - Detailed annular pressure loss and surge/swab modeling
  • - Managing narrow mud weight windows in complex formations
  • - Optimizing ECD and minimizing formation damage
  • - Workshop: Calculate ECD profiles for a challenging horizontal section

Day 3 – Torque, Drag & BHA Optimization

  • - Advanced torque & drag analysis for high-angle and ERD wells
  • - Friction factor management and reducing wellbore tortuosity
  • - BHA stability and dynamics in challenging environments
  • - Exercise: Optimize BHA and torque/drag profile for a deviated well
 

 

Day 4 – Managed Pressure Drilling & Advanced Well Control

  • - MPD techniques: constant bottom hole pressure, dual gradient
  • - Kick detection, early warning indicators, and response
  • - Planning MPD operations in narrow pore-fracture pressure windows
  • - Workshop: Prepare an MPD plan for a deepwater well scenario

Day 5 – DrillSIM 5000 Simulator Hands-On Session

  • - Introduction to DrillSIM 5000 simulator controls and environment
  • - Simulated well planning, drilling execution, and troubleshooting
  • - Simulating stuck pipe events, kicks, and well control responses
  • - Team exercises to handle real-time downhole complications
  • - Capstone Project: Drill a simulated well from spud to TD with live problem-solving
